I promise you, they are absolutely not a thing of the past.  Business cards are still one of the greatest networking tools.  Handing a business card to each person you meet at a networking event can go a long way in getting you some valuable contacts, both in the job market, and when you already have a steady job looking for other partners to work with.  You DO NOT have to currently have a job to create business cards.  Just think of how easy it would be to hand out your contact information at a job interview if you had custom business cards.

Job interviewers will appreciate it more if they had a business card that fit in their Rolodex.  If you make it convenient for them, this might be something they remember when considering whether to hire you a few days later.  And to think it would only take you a few short minutes to jump online and create a business card.
